ABOUT OUR FOUNDER, REV. EVAN REIDRev. Evan began his professional career as a cinematographer, having studied documentary filmmaking in London, England. He migrated to Toronto in the late 1960’s. In 1973 to 1990, he worked as the head of the media section at one of the campuses of a Toronto University. During that period he served as a member of the Ontario Universities Media Directors Association and on the University’s Teaching and Learning Committee.
His studies included communication and business management, which have proven to be important tools in doing the ministry.
During Evan’s studies in London he was introduced to the English translation of the Bhagavad Gita and it is out of reading and eventually studying it, that he realized all ancient writings must be taken as metaphors, and not literally.
Out of a health challenge in his thirties, he began to seek methods and techniques that could help him to align himself; with who he really was and not what others thought of him. This search led Evan to disciplines of meditation and breathing, and through them he realised the power that the mind has over the body.
In 1982 he enrolled in the Johnnie Colemon Institute and became a licensed teacher in 1985 and eventually a minister in 1987 and in that year became the teacher-director and then minister of Christ Universal Centre, Toronto.
Evan lectured in Canada, Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Guyana and the United States. He taught at the Johnnie Colemon Theological Seminary and was always available to share information with others.
Evan believed that each life is a story that is told as it is lived, the conclusion of which is a unique and subjective interpretation of an idea; life. Each story is expressed and experienced individually and the lines, paragraphs and chapters are formed by the choices made.
His invitation to anyone willing to learn is to join Verity, and begin to write your story with a wonderful conclusion powered by the discovery, that you are an idea fully endowed with all the power and gifts of Spirit. Like any idea you are transcendental and perfect at your core.
